Lately, Fiona has been really fussy. It’s like she’s regressing and instead of maturing into a happy baby that sleeps through the night and smiles at everyone, she’s turning into a baby that cries a lot and has bad gas. She farts like a sailor and cries, seems really uncomfortable, has been spitting up multiple times after a feeding, straining, pooping less often, and her poop smells like vinegar. After consulting Doctor Internet I took her to her pediatrician and described all of her symptoms and provided a poopie diaper. There are many possible causes: Stomach virus (would explain the green poop), foremilk imbalance, lactose overload, teething, growth spurt, food allergies, or some combination of these. To rule out food allergies we had to get a blood test. Fiona sat on my lap and I restrained one of her arms while they drew blood out of the other. She howled and I cried. I NEVER EVER want to do that again. It was awful. She was recovered and smiling soon after, but I was traumatized. Not the way I envisioned spending my day.
We get the results next week.
On a more positive note, I took her to get a weight check so she can get her RSV shots (another thing I’m not looking forward to, poor kid) and she weighs 12 pounds 9 ounces (or more now). She’s now in the 10th percentile for weight for her actual age. She’s catching up in size. Probably because she eats every two hours when her eyes are open. And after getting the run around for a long time, the insurance company finally approved the shots.
It was a very emotional day.
