A lot has happened and nothing much has happened at the same time. Last weekend Fiona had a fever again. She had it on and off all week, but luckily it was going away on it’s own and I did not have to give her anything for it. I took her to the doctor and everything checked out fine so I think that it is caused by teething (what isn’t these days?) because of the Niagara Falls of drool that are coming out of her mouth.
Here is a quick update on what she’s doing:
Eating meat. Fiona is officially no longer a vegetarian. She’s had a little bit of hamburger and a lot of chicken. She likes lasagna and the cheese that is in it. She eats bananas again. She can self feed puffs and carrots. She likes curry. In fact, other than avocado, I can’t think of any food that she doesn’t like. She’s like me, except my food kryptonite is mushroom rather than avocado.
She slept through the night for over a week, but has now reverted to waking once or twice. Last night she slept in bed with John and me because she kept waking up and we weren’t sure why. I was so tired that I just brought her in bed. She was wide awake at 2am. It was a bumpy night to say the least.
She is napping in her crib right now. I spent a week training her to nap in her crib. The details will be in another post.
She has begun to pull up on things. At first it was a park bench. Then a toy at the doctor’s office (that I cleaned before I let her touch, then cleaned her hands after). She can stand if we hold her hands, she is still shakey, but getting stronger. She has crawled forward a few times. The first time it was to get at some puffs I was playing with. Little by little she is figuring out that moving forward is a lot more efficient that the crazy combination of sitting, turning, rolling, and scooting that she does now.
We rearranged her room a little. We moved the big rocking chair to a corner so that she now has a large area of rug to move around on. She liked it instantly and spent a good part of yesterday moving around her room. To move the chair we had to say goodbye to the swing. It was time though, she hasn’t used it for a long time now.
She vocalizes more and more, but still is not babbling. Although she now makes a noise that sounds a lot like the word “the”. She loves the book “Hop on Pop” and we read it to her every morning.
We took the books out from under her mattress, so for the first time in her life, she is sleeping on a flat surface, rather than one on an incline. Maybe that is why she slept so poorly last night?
We took Fiona to the post office and applied for a passport. She got her first passport photo taken. The woman asked me if Fiona could sit up because she assumed that she couldn’t (probably because she is small and was in the Ergo at the time). We assured her that Fiona could not only sit up, she has excellent posture.
Here is the photo:
Mugging, just like her mom. We want to get her a Canadian passport but the Canadian government is very picky about the photos, so we decided to wait until this summer when we go to Canada. We figure someone there will be able to take satisfactory photos.
I am going to be in a documentary called “The After Birth Project”. It will air in YouTube and I will let everyone know when it is ready.
Today she went to a plant nursery for the first time and John planted the garden. I can’t wait for all the good vegetables to ripen so we can them.
That is all I can think of for now. The last couple of weeks have seemed very busy because school started again.
Here are some photos from the last two weeks:
Out at lunch. She sits in a high chair now, whenever we go to restaurants. She tried to eat the table. I guess she was hungry.
At the nursery. Not sure what John is doing here. Growling at something? A passing bear maybe?
Fiona got a new umbrella stroller. I don’t know why they are called umbrella strollers, but this one was very inexpensive and she likes it when I push her around the house in it.
Our garden. It is amazing how much food you can grow in a small space. We also have veggies planted in front of the house.
A cactus that I thought died several years ago.
I saw this license plate holder and had to take a photo of it. I also love JDM (those are John’s initials, for those who might read this blog who are not actually related to him).
Fiona asleep in the car. I love that she falls asleep in the car now. It means we can actually go places and she can nap if she gets tired.
I opened a box and look what I found:
True to form, she chewed on it:
There is more, I will write in another post.
