John and I got our TDAP ad Flu shots on Thursday. TDAP is Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Whooping Cough). I’ve never had a flu shot so I was worried, but it turns out I had no side effects. John got blue camouflage band aids and I got pink. Then they gave us lollipops. I’m glad we got the TDAP shot because there was an article in the paper Friday about it becoming an epidemic and that nine infants died from it recently. Fi had her TDAP in August, so she is already covered.
Later my mom and I went to Tutti Frutti to help support Nicole and the PHS Academic Decathlon Team. We sat and visited with some of my former students are a few colleagues. And of course ate some yummy frozen yogurt. I prefer Tutti Frutti to Pinkberry. I think it is better yogurt.
No photos in this post because I haven’t taken many or uploaded them. :(
On the weight gain front, Fiona is now in the 3rd percentile for her actual age! Woohoo! Grow baby, grow! It feels good knowing I can nourish my child after everything we’ve been through. Now her darn reflux just needs to go away and we truly will be the luckiest family in the world.
Hey not to sound pessimistic at all, but babies aren't fully protected from pertussis til they have had at least all their shots in the first year- so be extra vigilant especially when/if around other kids (little germ-bags that they are). Honestly, I'm very upset at the media not giving the full story about the ridiculous increase in pertussis this year- most of it has to do with really stupid parents who think that vaccinating their children will make them autistic. The pertussis that is at truly epidemic levels now is a "bigger and badder" version, one that has reared its ugly head and mutated in children who have never been vaccinated because they have psuedo-hippie, dip-shit parents. The down side for the rest of us who are responsible, conscientious adults is: MDs are now seeing pertussis infections in children who HAVE been properly vaccinated because the vaccine does not provide antibodies against this new strain. This is NOT being reported on the news, and in fact, has been somewhat squashed by the media. God forbid people who act irresponsibly shoudl be called on it, huh? Love you guys- your little girl is BEAUTIFUL!! T.
