Fiona’s First Solids

Recently, we had a couple of small late season butternut squashes. We decided to make squash Fiona’s first solid food experience. I roasted the squashes and pureed one of them with breast milk. We fed it to her on a little spoon. She seemed to like it. She did not protest and even took the spoon in her hand. I think the bib got more squash than Fiona, but it was still a fun experience.

She really likes the spoon. We gave her squash the two nights after this and every time, she took the spoon and started chewing on it. We decided to give her a break for a few nights because it seemed like she was getting a little constipated. She was sitting at the table with us during dinner and she took John’s bowl, brought it to her mouth, and started chewing on it. She is also very interested in what we do when we eat, and follows the utensils from plate to mouth.

Sigh. My little girl is growing up.
