The Fruits of Our Labors

The first squashed from the garden, picked today:

There were also some peas. Fiona ate them all:

Here she is trying to find more:

Realizing she is looking in the wrong place, then waiting expectantly for John to give them to her:

Today Fiona said her name. We were looking in the mirror that is opposite our bed and I asked her who was there. She said “Mommy!” I asked her who else was in the mirror and she said “Fi!” Yesterday I did a memorial 5k run for a former student of mine who died a few years ago (he was really fit, loved to run, and was running when he died because of a congenital heart defect). On the way home, we were listening to music and Fiona started singing along. Today we were walking and I was singing “Lalala” and she repeated in a sing-songy voice. Every day she says and/or does something new. It’s a very exciting time for us.

I am still in disbelief that tomorrow is Fiona’s birthday. I didn’t think it would affect me, but it has. I definitely feel a lot more emotional right now because I am at the same point in the school year as when Fiona was born. It’s been hard in many ways. We have nothing special planned other than to spend the day as a family and maybe go somewhere fun.

I hope everyone’s weekend is a pleasant one.
