I’m officially on vacation, so I might have some time to blog. It’s been a really busy month. Mostly with work, but also on the weekends. Last weekend we had a great treat – a visit from Jen, Chris, and Elliot. We planned to purchase a Christmas tree on Saturday after they arrived, but a hose burst at my parents’ house, flooding their kitchen, so John had to take care of things while Jen and I took the kids to the park.
We took the wagon to the park and Fiona tried to pull Elliot along:
Ok, she had some help:
After nap, John and Chris took the kids to buy a tree while Jen and I made many, many latkes for the Chanukah party that was supposed to be at my parents’ house but was moved to my house. We spent an hour and a half frying countless latkes. My mom made the batter and we cooked them. My cousin David brought delicious homemade chicken soup, and my aunt Guila brought yummy cookies. We had 16 people total (all family) and it was a blast.
Traditional Chanukah food includes latkes (fried potato patties) and souvganiot (jelly doughnuts). So delicious, so healthy. Actually, I don’t like doughnuts, but I love latkes with apple sauce and sour cream.
Mmm…cookies:
My cousin Kaitlyn:
Our tree is decorated with some ornaments and stars of David:
We put some presents underneath tonight. We waited until after Fiona went to sleep so that she would not open them early (or accidentally break them).
On Sunday, we took the kids to the Gullwings Children’s Museum in Oxnard. I’ve been there once before with Fiona and wanted to go again. It was a rainy day, so inside activities were a must.
The kids had a great time and so did most of the parents. After nap time, we made dinner and the babies played. It was such a nice visit. Jen and Chris are really cute parents and Elliot is adorable. Fi and he took a bath together, because when you have two cute kids, what better activity than put them both in the bath together?
We all missed Jen and her family when they left. Fiona asked about them for several days. John and I retuned to work for one more week and finally we are on vacation.
The first thing we did was give Fiona a hair cut:
Even though she looks really serious, she thoroughly enjoyed her self, especially during the vacuuming of the hair part:
Fiona asked for the barber chair every day after her haircut:
Fiona is really into personal grooming. She loves to use my pick and combs to comb John’s hair:
She also loves tea:
Her favorites are apple and chamomile. She knows the jasmine is for Mommy only. Her cup is an espresso cup, but is perfectly sized for tea for Fi.
Today I went to the NICU to give them gifts. I gave Keurig cups for the machine we donated for Fiona’s first birthday, a large tea selection, some hats and clothes for preemie babies, boxes of See’s chocolates to be enjoyed by nurses and parents, and books that parents can read to their babies. I couldn’t carry everything, so I took a small suitcase. At home after, Fiona enjoyed dragging it around, putting things in it, and sometime getting in herself. She got in, closed the lid, and allowed me to take a photo:
Yes, she is unique. She passed up eggnog flavored pudding in favor of peas. Given the peas were mostly from the garden, but what child ever chooses the vegetable over the sweet treat? Mine does. And I hope she never changes!
Here is Fiona playing with her raincoat and gondolier’s hat that my parents bought me when I was about seven years old:
Here is Fi, reading with my dad:
Fiona sometimes looks at the blog and asks me where Mommy is, because I am always behind the camera. The first time she asked, it made me sad to think that if I died, all she would have is this blog, and she wouldn’t know I was really there because I am not in any of the photos. So here is proof that I exist:
Speaking of photos, we finally sent out holiday cards. They contain a photo of us taken by my friend Jenny on our camera. I think they will arrive later in the week. Everyone has a slightly different card because I decided to use all the holiday cards I had at home, and boy did I have a lot. Next year, I’m either going to go back to ordering them from one of the online photo sites, or I’m going to write a newsletter the way some of my friends do. Well, I have a year to figure it out anyway.
Last, here is a picture of Fiona wearing one of my work t-shirts:
Happy Holidays!
